Dreams come true thanks to Community Chest grants

Community Chest is an IGA grants program that gives back to the tapestry of community groups that contribute to the Hastings way of life.  An estimated $250,500 has been returned to the local community since the program's inception.

The grants are all about celebrating the great work of local, non for profit community groups and helping fund equipment, infrastructure and projects that will leave a lasting legacy for our community.

In the past, grants have supporting long-awaited projects such as tennis court nets, outdoor learning areas, surf club boards, FAWNA training equipment and suicide prevention workshops.

Our four IGA supermarket customers play a pivotal role in the program's success, with funds from specially-marked products pooled to provide the grants, so every time you purchase one of these specially-marked products you can feel good about giving back to the community too.

2021/22 Community Chest grant recipients

The hopes and dreams of 10 local community groups became a reality thanks to a $16,000 funding injection in February 2022.

This year’s grants funded everything from a defibrillator for Wauchope Walking Group and solar lighting for Wauchope Girl Guides’ camp shed to building extensions for Wauchope Men’s Shed and the replacement of Wauchope Cricket Club’s flood damaged equipment.

Other projects include first aid kit upgrades for Wauchope Blues Junior Rugby League, a BBQ and removable tables and chairs for Wauchope Little Athletics, a portable PA system for Wauchope Swimming Club, specialised coaching for Wauchope Netball Club coaches, site upgrades for equestrian events at Rollands Plains Recreation Reserve and a freezer and ice maker for Wauchope Lions Club.

The projects are far-reaching and will benefit a wide cross section of the community, and we hope each of the groups, their members, volunteers and the wider community enjoy the benefits of these grants for many years to come.

Applications for the next round of grants will be advertised in November 2022.
